World Series Game 4 Open Thread

I am just hoping the Red Sox end it tonight, as I really can't remember a World Series I have been less interested in. I'm ready to move on to free agency and all of the other offseason happenings as well as trying to forget that A) the Red Sox won another World Series and B) the Colorado Rockies actually made a World Series.

Boston is already up 1-0 in the 2nd.

Frist!
Bill Frist. He's the Rockies' only hope.

I don't think it ends tonight, I'm guessing it'll end in Boston so jackholes everywhere can celebrate the "little guy" winning it all.

I hope the Rockies win it all, and I don't even like God.

Did you and Ash
end up watching the game somewhere? Sorry I couldn't make it, I was wiped from my recent extracurricular activities. I also wanted to take it easy leading up to the physical I have scheduled for tomorrow morning, since three days of clean living should definitely make up for six months of debauchery. :)

We did not...
No one was really interested/available for last night, and it appears we missed our chance for the World Series.

However, Hopefully we all can meet up somewhere in the near future (without baseball being the driving force) and drink and bitch about the Reds.

Also, we need to start planning the Reds Fest trip.

Sounds like a plan
And I hate to admit it, but I have never in my life been to Reds Fest, even with where I work. Go figure.

Fox theme
I guess I haven't been paying close enough attention, but I noticed tonight that FOX is using the theme from the 1980s television miniseries "North and South."  Has anyone else noticed that?

THANK YOU!
I knew I had heard that somewhere before and mentioned to my friend, who replied "nah, it's just some stock dramatic sounding bed music".

I noticed the music
I had no idea where it was from.  My guess was one of the Jurassic Park movies.  For some reason, it makes me think of dinosaurs.  :-D

The Red Sox are already up 2-0?

Come on Rockies, you have to actually score some time.

Rockies
The 2007 Rockies are rivaling the 2006 Detroit Tigers as far as shutting down goes.

This really is...
...one of the worst World Series I can remember.

Of course, the fact that I dislike both teams probably has something to do with it...

I'm amazed.

Well played
And let it be known that the PA announcer's "one of the greatest country music acts, blah blah, blah....Lonestar!" caused me to look up and promptly change the channel.

damnit
I go away to Canada for 3 days and the whole damn baseball season ends?!?!?!

FWIW, in Canada, they have 2 options for TV announcers.  Unfortunately, neither are Bob & Doug McKenzie, but I think I preferred Dave O'Brien and Rick Sutcliffe over Buck/McCarver.  Sutcliffe at least still has a few years before he starts wearing out every story he's ever told.  Plus, there's always the chance that he'll say something that will get him or the station fined.  Maybe that's why he was on in Canada instead of the U.S.  On Canadian channels, they don't seem to bleep the word "shit" but "fuck" is still off limits.

Anyway, congratulations Red Sox for sucking the fun out of baseball.  You were much more interesting when you were just trying to overcome your history.  At least now Bill James has two rings, in case anyone is counting.

Imagine this lineup

Hamilton CF
Phillips 2B
Griffey RF
Rodriguez 3B
Dunn LF
Gonzalez SS
Votto 1B
Ross C
Pitcher

Lethal.

A-Rod
would probably hit 80 dingers playing half his games at GABP

by MixFMKyle on Oct 29, 2007 2:29 PM EDT reply actions

I don't know if you are being facetious
but GABP increased HRs for RH hitters by about 11% this year.  Yankee Stadium decreased them by about 4% for RH hitters.  That means he'll get about a 15% gain from Yankee Stadium to GABP.  That's about 4 home runs at home, which wouldn't even get him to 60 for the year.

Personally I'm petrified of going after A-Rod.  $30M to one player leaves no room for error on the rest of the roster, and if Rodriguez got seriously hurt then that's it.  I like the idea of him in the lineup, but I don't like the idea of what it would take to get him there.

Plus, I have no desire to see the headline A-Rod A Red.

I'm not superstitious...but I am a little stitious.

by Slyde on Oct 29, 2007 3:21 PM EDT up reply actions

This is where we differ
I would really enjoy that headline from a purely aesthetic point of view. It flows off the tongue so nicely.

Plus, at least it's not a dumb pun or a Wang joke.

Everybody's a jerk. You. Me. This jerk.

Lethal- No - Doable - Yes
Hamilton CF -  Split some time w/NOHO
Bruce RF
Phillips 2B -
Dunn
EdE
LFVotto 1B
Gonzalez/Keppinger
Ross/Valentin C
Pitcher

A-Rod cannot alone makeup for the lack of pitching that Reds have. We already went through this when Jr. was signed. Signing AROD (if they even could) would reduce any possibility of fixing the pitching problem. I'd much rather find a way to move Jr. and reduce part of his salary and spend some money on pitching. We've got a formidable enough lineup to compete offensively as shown above.
