Marty endorses Conine
I listened to the Hot Stove segment with Marty Brennaman last night and I thought it was interesting that he reported that, unlike many others in the Cincy area, he feels that Jeff Conine still has a lot to offer as a baseball player to this team. He said he didn't care that Conine is 40 years old; that he has always admired Conine and believes that Conine will be a solid contributor to the Reds. Since Marty is pretty cynical in general, I thought this was an "eyebrow raising" kind of statement.
Marty also stated that he believes Krivsky has something in mind as far as other deals before spring training. I hope he is right. I think one major deal or even semi-major would be enough to make us competitive.
On the flip side, Marty said he was convinced that the Reds can count on Milton or Lohse being consistent as he only saw flashes of that from them last season.

OOPS
marty
But his views are not exactly cutting edge.
Agreed
I still can't get over how horrendously bad the Yankees announcer is. God he is horrible. How in the heck did he get that gig?
Concerning Marty's views, while he obviously has never met an opinion he didn't like, I tend to trust his judgement on players. Granted, he's just an announcer. But he's been accurate many times before. Also take into account that he's been around the game for over 30 years, I think that he has an idea as to what he's talking about.

not hyperbole
Also...
If you're a guy who's as well respected as him, you gotta have some class and show support for the players. Especially the new ones.
While we're on the topic of Marty, I though I'd share a little story:
My first Cincinnati Reds game was one I went to with another Reds fan from Columbia. We were playing, and beat the Cardinals at Busch Stadium. I got autographs from some of the players: Dmitri Young, Pete Harnisch, Denys Reyes... lol... I was trying to get Larkin and Reyes came over and grabbed the ball and signed it... Also got Justin Atchley, etc.
Anyways, I got Marty Brennamen's signature too... soooo... here's where the story starts:
My friend had gone to another game and after the game and saw some guy trying to get an autograph from Marty. The guy was mad cuz he forgot his ball, and Marty gave him a ball... yay Marty...lol
