Around SBN: Clippers Need To Realize That Spurs Are The Anti-Grizzlies

Game Thread: Game 138 vs. the Giants

TIME: 5:10 @ Great American Ball Park

GIANTS PROBABLE:
                       REDS PROBABLE:
Brad Hennessey (5-4, 3.70)             Aaron Harang (13-10, 3.75)

I can't ever remember being so glad to see a road trip come to an end.

Hennessey really hasn't been very good his last few starts, so let's hope Cincinnati can make it a trend.

Go Reds!

Unfortunately...
I had family obligations that kept me from the game today.  I hope everyone had a good time though!  I'm sure it would of been more enjoyable had the Reds won...

Transactions
Cincinnati Reds
Recalled RHP Matt Belisle and LHP Chris Michalak from Class A Sarasota; Recalled INF Ray Olmedo from Triple-A Louisville; Selected the contract of OF Dewayne Wise from Louisville; Recalled RHP Elizardo Ramirez from Louisville and placed on the 60-day disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis.

confused.
So I'll admit that I didn't pay attention while the game was happening, but looking at the box score now, I can't help but scratch my head when I see that when Narron finally put Griffey in (AFTER Wells was gone, of course), he replaced Denorfia, who was 2-for-3 with our only RBI on the day.  Huh?

Narron is a .500 mgr, at best
Lineup construction is a major issue.  I cannot fathom why one wouldnt put the best players on the field consistently during a pennant race.  Makes no sense to me.  The Narron administration, to me, will be defined by the decision to "puff up" and release Josh Hancock.

Petty.  Shortsided.  Devoid of value.  All characteristics of Narron, IMO.

Junior looks huge.  Dunn looks bigger.  Not a word is said to them re: conditioning.  Consistency.  Gotta love it.

I think
Everyone should try to hit balls to LF.  Make Bonds move around a bit.  It's basically the same principle as letting David Wells run the bases -- his knees can't take it and it helps knock him out of the game quicker.

by Brendanukkah on Sep 4, 2006 5:36 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah but...
If you get David Wells to run his fat butt around the bases, at least don't make him go to the trouble of throwing more than, say, 4 pitches in the next half inning, because that wouldn't be sportsmanlike.

I volunteer to provide the "Gentlemen, start your engines" line immediately after the national anthem...Nascar style.

How many racecars will be in the race that evening?

(The Sugar-in-the-Raw Chevrolet has been running strong all season in an attempt to catch up to the Kingsford Dogdge, the points leader.  On the other hand, the Vanity Fair Ford has been seen trading paint with his main competitor to the Next-Tell cup leader.)

You decide who boobs, ash and sucr are in the above "riddle".

i dont understand
how he could have possibly gotten hurt on that play?

And guess what? Narron continues to leave in Harang to allow more extra-base hits. Now he'll probably bring in franklin, majewski or cormier to allow the go-ahead run...

Part of Narron's strategy
Leaving Harang in so long means that our bullpen is in better shape when we go to extras.  He's always two steps ahead with his thinking.

Or in some other ballgame completely.

Better get Ryan Franklin in the game so we can save our good relievers for the extra innings that will never get here because Ryan Franklin pitched the 9th inning of a tie game.

We did however go to at least one spot in Newport afterwards to drown our sorrows. I almost had to keep her from chewing on the bridge she was so pissed. It was classic.

We met up with Daedalus over in the moon deck and then pestered JCH888 for the rest of the game. Daedalus came up and sat with all of us for a couple innings, which was fun. We called Bloops and Shots all night, ragged on Morron, and pretty much summed up the year's worth of blog commentary.

Right now, despite the loss, I'm pretty excited about RR Day and I'm hoping that next year we can all get started earlier with the occasionaly meeting up and collectively ranting, drinking and enjoying a game. Then again, maybe next year we won't have so much ranting to do.....
