According to a Cardinals beat writer, Elizardo Ramirez was tipping his pitches which the Cardinals advance scouts picked up on:
"seriously ... it's pretty obvious.
The Cardinals picked up on it; had a lengthy hitters meeting today.
15 pitches, 5 runs....
first four batters saw 8 pitches.... and the results wree three doubles and a line drive single.
Hal McCoy, Hall of Fame baseball writer, tells me he wrote about this a while back -- how Ramirez was giving away his fastball -- and the Reds got all pizzed at him.
One thing the Cardinals do very well as a staff is find this sort of stuff on video."
So the Cards just waited for Ramirez to tip his fastball and disregarded breaking balls. Why can't our scouts come up with stuff like this?
