Freel with the day off today, Hollandsworthless starting in right
Per Marc:
Phillips 2B
Hatteberg 1B
Griffey CF
Encarnacion 3B
Dunn LF
Aurilia SS
Hollandsworth RF
Ross C
Michalak P
I guess today is basically a throwaway game anyways with Michalak vs. Oswalt, but seriously, Jerry, why the hell didn't you take Freel out in like the 4th inning yesterday? He's proven that he needs rest, while Dunn goes out there and gives us 160 games without a problem, yet Dunn is the one who comes out of the game. I'll be shocked if we manage more than two runs, and I'll be equally shocked if we give up less than seven.

Hey
Oswalt 0-1 vs Reds in 2006
Claussen started.
Hatteberg, Aurilia, Phillips each had 3 hits in that game.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=260428117
Oswalt has been hittable this year, posting the worst opp AVG and opp SLG of his career. His K/rate is also the worst of his career. He still has good numbers overall, but he's not been as dominate as he has been in past years. His BB/rate is one of the best he's had, so the Reds cannot squander the opportunities they have when runners get on-base.
So, while I haven't a clue what Michalak is going to do, I wouldn't be shocked to see the Reds score 4+ runs today.
We've got more than
I think it might
I do know this: Dead-to-me owes us like, a 4-4 day at the plate.
Less a bat.
(grumbling)
O.k. Throwaway is too strong. It's "not to my liking". How's that? I'm also still upset we've lost games this year, but I'm not that hard to please, am I?
Well, if it makes you feel any better
and I can't stand losing innings, let alone games.
I can't stand losing at-bats

By being a terrible hitter with ridiculous speed
the importance of 1 game
In 2001, I was in SanFrancisco for two DiamondBack vs Giants games in May. Game 1 was an 18-inning, 1-0 victory for Arizona. Game 2 was a 4-3 Arizona victory in which Barry Bonds hit 2 homeruns. The two homeruns Bonds hit allowed him in one day to tie and pass someone on the alltime HR list.
The hometown crowd was, of course, ecstatic. It was just 1 game in May. There's a lot of baseball still to be played. Bonds provided fireworks. Yadayadayada. In the end, winning those two games gave the eventual World Series champs the 2-game cushion they needed over San Francisco for the NL West division title. Had the Giants won just 1 of those "not-so-meaningful" May games, there would have been a 163rd game. Had they won both, the Giants would have been in the playoffs and Arizona would have been watching from home in October.
At the end of the year, I'm hoping that it was Larussa's mistake of throwing a AAA lineup vs Dave Williams that comes back to haunt him instead of a Franklin in the 9th of a tie game that haunts the Reds.
One game matters.
Nice job, Mark Berry.
Wow!
Weeeeee.
Let's do it bad man.

Rob Neyer from today's chat
Rob Neyer: (12:59 PM ET ) The Reds have spent the entire season surprising me, to the point where now I'm actually rooting for them. And today they're up 2-0 against Oswalt in a game they have absolutely no business winning. Do I think they'll make the playoffs? Yes, I do. But it's going to be a close-run thing, and they'll have to win two or three games in the last weekend of the season.

With this HOU lineup...
They must've thrown in the towel after yesterday.

Texans 0
Made me laugh.

Cynical negativity is win-win
Does being right
I choose cautious optimism. I don't expect a lot out of Michalak, but I'm hoping that he'll prove me wrong.
He doesn't have many innings left
Sequence to Encarnacion
2nd time up. 3 pitches. First two middle of the plate at the letters, 3 pitch inside corner, low (same pitch Encar K'd on in the 1st.)
Keep it up Mich...

are they leaving Miller in?

Hmm...Interesting
Narron pleased with young slugger's approach at the plate
"'If he hadn't been on the DL, you could compare his numbers to [Mets third baseman David] Wright,' Narron said."
...or maybe if you didn't sit him for a month after he came off the DL?
first and second, 1 out...
Dammit LLM!!
And according to ESPN...
Unfortunately, unlike Vlad, BP hit it straight up in the air.
