Game Thoughts: Reds beat the Royals 6-5

A win is a win. I guess.

Quick thoughts:

  • Can you believe that the Reds have the best record in the NL Central over the last 10 games? It sure as hell doesn't feel like they've gone 6-4 over the last ten.
  • I don't need to see any more of David Weathers or Chris Hammond. Seriously, Mr. Krivsky, for the love of God, I can't take any more.
  • 21 runs in the last three games. I'm encouraged by that. They're probably going to have to score quite a few runs this weekend against Cleveland.
  • Bronson Arroyo is pretty blunt:  "Sure, it irritates you, but that's not saying the guys in the bullpen aren't doing the best they can ... If it was a one-run lead, I would've gone back out there, but the bullpen has been throwing better of late, and I thought three runs was a big enough lead."
  • But let's look on the bright side. The Reds are hitting. That's three series in a row now where they've played well. And they're only a game behind the Cardinals. Things are pretty good. But man I certainly hope we can get some new arms for the bullpen soon.

Let me be the first to say....
I do not blame Narron for last night, end of story.

I really think he has done a very good job with this team. Hammonds and Weathers should not be throwing to anyone over the age of 15 anymore, but in that situation, Hammond, Weathers and Merker were the guys who were the most rested. Those are the arms he has to work with and those are the guys who are being paid a boatload of money to go out a pitch effectivly. That they seem totally unable to is on them, not the manager.

As JD noted, we must get down and pray to whatever high power we beleive in resectively (My god looks stikingly like the Phillies mascot, but with twelve arms) that these two men (I'll throw in three w/Merker) are gone very soon, but until that happens, Narron has what he has.

Hammond
He went through the Indians 1 through 6 hitters on sunday only giving up 1 hit... then he proceeds to give up 3 hits to the 4 ROYALS he faced.  This is the same guy that started the first week of the year with an infinite ERA, and then posted a 0.91 ERA from April 9th June 7th.

As Marty would say, "The only thing consistent about him, is his inconsistency"

What phase of the moon was it last night?
Don't mind me...just pitching to contact, that's all...

Much Better Than Expected
July is here and who would have dreamed in March the Reds would be where they are? Granted the rest of the NL Central has basicly been sub-par, but that's baseball. But the Reds are in the race even if most of the country (ie.ESPN) doesn't want to acknowledge them. Krivsky will put a package together to try and help our poor relief pitching. Top management is set on winning; that's the key.

Stormy
You know, he pitched terribly yesterday and actually LOWERED HIS ERA!  All of those runs were charged to Hammonds.
