All Star Game "counts" again!

Bud Selig is a buffoon.

Star-divide

I have never heard any say that home field advantage being determined by the All Star Game is a good idea, except for Selig and his toadies. Was the tie really that bad? Honestly? I'd rather see a tie than this. Let's put it to the public.

The only thing I can say for it is the old way, with home field switching back and forth, isn't that good either. Why not the team with the best overall record?

the way I see it
the all-star game deciding home field advantage is a pretty minor issue.  The thing I don't like is players from different leagues meeting at times other than the all-star game or the world series.  (I hate interleague games.)

Interleague
I don't like it either, and the regional mismatches (St. Louis/KC for one) are obviously very influential.

But homefield advantage is a big deal in baseball--as close/tie game progress toward the later innings, the home team becomes more and more likely to win because they have the last at bat. I suppose Selig's logic is that since alternating the advantage was arbitrary before, replacing it with a new arbitary method.

I agree with RM--let the best record get the advantage.

something like that
though, that's not exactly fair either, because some divisions are more difficult than others, and most agree that the AL is the stronger league.  I don't think there really is a fair way to determine who recieves home field advantage.

Interleague
I really don't see the need for it in its current expanded (post 1997) format. Baseball has had interleague play for years and it is great, they call it the World Series.
