  • This has nothing to do with baseball, but I found it amusing. J.J. Redick was arrested and charged with a DWI last night. Those Dukies, such clean kids.
  • Dean Taylor has left the Reds and joined the Kansas City organization. This is a good thing.
  • Adam Dunn doesn't know who Eric Davis is.
  • This has been a long time coming. I hate the Pirates though, so I don't feel for them like I do for Kansas City. Anything coming out of Pittsburgh is pretty much pure evil.
  • Jason Grimsley has been slapped with a 50 game suspension. I love the line over at Baseball Primer: "Shocking.  No wonder he hit so many homers." That's the great paradox of the whole steroids thing, the fact that so many pitchers were apparently using.
  • This is an awesome article. I love glimpses of minor league life.

Dunn
Should hope he turns into half the all around player Davis was.

Dunn's right though...
Griffey is still making the plays and he's not hurting the team.

So why move him?

by bigjas on Jun 13, 2006 4:26 PM EDT   0 recs

Griffey
He makes routine plays look hard. He has to dive to get balls that Denorfia, Kearns, or Freel would catch standing up.

He's slow. That happens when you have a bunch of metal in your legs at the age of 36. There's no shame in it.

Griffey
to right? Could the new and improved slimmer Austin handle center field?

No,
Griffey to left.  Denorfia in center.
Rootin' the Reds home.

agree
Griff to left, Kearns in right, Denorfia/Freel can be more than adequate in center...

I wish Davis or other similar type guys would pick up the phone and call Griff. I agree that Griff has done pretty well in center but why risk it? Griff is being selfish........

Enough with the Homeruns and Strikeouts

then
What do you do with Dunn? Move him to first?

easy...
I'm not sure Grif is being selfish, he's been a centerfielder since the early 80's.  He still has a good arm, he hits the cutoff man, he is above avg in positioning, and he doesn't boot the ball when its hit to him.  He's lost some range, but the heir is Stubbs not Deno.  Grif will finish '07 as the CF then yield to the phenom.

It hurts me that Dunn doesn't know who ED is.  He only retired a few years ago, and his return from colon cancer was phenomenal...as was 37 HR/50 steals with gold glove caliber CF defense.

Bullpen arms needed. ASAP.  Red alert.  Mayday, mayday.

Why isn't anyone calling to acquire Olmedo?  He's the shizzle.

Waive Machado.  Bergolla is blocked, and his stats are blah.

Dunn. Kearns. Junior. Bruce. Stubbs.  Ahhhhhh, the return of the overcrowded OF is less than 2 yrs away, hopefully.

Dunn and Davis
Could it be that Dunn's comment was really meant to be: I was just trying to figure out which Davis said that?  The online headline for the article was "Davis: Move would help Junior" and I imagine the paper's headline was the same (can anyone confirm).  Davis is a fairly common name.  I think what Dunn was trying to say, "I don't agree and the only reason I was reading the article was to find out which Davis said it."  I doubt that he doesn't know who Eric Davis is.  I mean, he wears the same number, somebody has to have brought his name up to him before, at least.

agreed
he has to know who Eric Davis is. Eric didn't retire until after ( or was it during?) Dunn's rokkie year. I think he was trying to figure out which Davis said it.

I sure hope you're right
I imagine that Dunn has been with the Reds long enough to know...and anyway, Davis was working with the players at spring training.

Slyde's right
I was at Eric Davis night when ED played for the Giants and Dunn played in that game. I was also at the game when he was inducted into the Reds HOF and Dunn was obviously there for that. I don't think he's that dumb.

Denorfia...
I was under the impression he was more of a corner outfielder?
