Game Thread: Game 30 vs. the Diamondbacks

TIME: 9:40 @ Chase Field

REDS PROBABLE:
                   DIAMONDBACKS PROBABLE:
Elizardo Ramirez (1-1, 3.46)       Brandon Webb (4-0, 2.22)

Getting this up pretty early, because I'm not sure if I'll be around.

Brandon Webb has been ridiculously good this year, so the Reds might have some trouble tonight. But hey, we've got this going for us:

Go Reds!

Weekend series
Pitching matchups this weekend:

Ramirez v. Webb
Arroyo v. Vargas
Williams v. El Duque

Looks like a some chance/good chance/some chance weekend.  Do you agree?

no chance?
Going into tonight, I think we can agree that Ramirez/Webb was no chance.

McCracken?
espn says that Quentin is getting the start tonight in CF instead of Denorfia?  Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

IMO Quentin needs to get the Tony Womack treatment.

has to be narron playing the lefty righty thing...

Q-Crack
Not sure why Quentin was playing deep center with B-Webb at the plate.

What's the Lizard's deal?
It doesn't look good on gamecast.  Anyone watching?

by ben nevis on May 5, 2006 10:09 PM EDT reply actions

Yup
Just started watching this half inning (bottom of second).  Looks like he's over throwing and missing location all over the place.

OMG.  What the hell is going on Hatteberg?  Narron is really rolling his eyes now.

re:
I think hatteberg may have been leading Freel a little ?? thinking he was going to need to start running the runner towards third.... he and freel not on same page

ok...giving him benefit of the doubt......

Balk?
When was the last time a balk happened?  Where's our well-rested bullpen?

by ben nevis on May 5, 2006 10:18 PM EDT reply actions

Although
I guess the balk didn't matter, ultimately.

Narron
THey keep showing him in the dugout just staring onto the ield looking annoyed. Why isn't he on the way to the mound?  Ramirez has done just about everything wrong you can do in one inning.

And so has the defense, apparently.  When did Chuck Knoblach start playing second base for the Reds?

by Brian B on May 5, 2006 10:18 PM EDT reply actions

yeah but...
yeah but I like that narron is giving lizard a chance to play through it. It's early in the season. It's the defense that let him down. Give him a chance to come in clean with a new inning. If he gets in trouble again though then sure let him off the hook and get 'em outta there.....

A couple weeks ago
Detroit tanked a game and Jimmy Leyland went nuts.  The Tigers went on to tear it up for a while.  Actually, I'm not sure they're done tearing it up.  I'd love to see Narron do the same - you know, let the kids know that if they want to contend they've got to play.

good...
let the lizard bunt...and give him another chance !!

game
well, I guess everyone's passed out by now.  I must say, I hope tonight's lineup (offense and defense) was an experiment and Narron has noted the utter failure.

lineup
No kidding, Kearns batting seventh behind Valentin?  I like Valentin, but over Kearns?  Isn't Austin hitting over .300, not only on the season but also with RISP?
