Game Thread: Game 6 vs. the Pirates

TIME: 1:15 @ Great American Ball Park

REDS PROBABLE:
                 PIRATES PROBABLE:
Dave Williams (0-0, 0.00)        Victor Santos (0-1, 6.23)

Brandon Phillips is now on the active roster, and Chris Denorfia has been sent to AAA, as I'm sure most of you have heard by now.

I really hope another move is imminent, because LaRue will be back on Tuesday, meaning the Reds will be carrying three catchers and four second baseman. That's not exactly a recipe for success.

It'll be interesting to see what Dave Williams can do today against his old teammates. Not sure it matters though, because the bullpen is sure to tack on another 3-6 runs after he's pulled. Something needs to be done about the pen. And since we have all these excess parts a trade for a reliever would make a lot of sense right now.

Go Reds!

the lineup
I'm kind of puzzled about why Freel is benched in favor of Womack today--Freel seems like he has been doing a great job as leadoff hitter.  Also, maybe I'm putting too mich stock in his cleanup performance yesterday, but I kind of like Aurilia over Hatterberg.

Line up
I agree. Ride the ponies while they are hot!! Freel has been outstanding. Let him play! Let him Play!!

"puzzled" is an understatement
Every since the end of yesterday's game, I had this sinking feeling that Freel would be sitting with a RHP on the mound today. And sure enough... This is pathetic. How can Narron sit in that dugout and not see what we--untrained, unpaid fans--can see plain as day. The Reds NEED to trade Womack for the simple reason of opening up an everyday spot for Freel.

I believe Steve Stewart said yesterday, "Freel is the best leadoff hitter on this team, and one of the best in all of baseball." And he's rotting on the bench. I don't blame Freel for being pissed. Five steals in three starts...

argh!
From now on, I will refer to Freel's archrival as Tony @#$%! Womack.  I encourage others to do the same.

Pirates Fox Sports announcers
Think they should have Womack and Freel in there at the same time.  Their opinion of Dunn at first base is "uhhh he's OK, not gonna win any gold gloves there."  And wow, that was a bonehead move by him there.

But yea

a real brainteaser
what do you do with a guy with these stats:

.545 BA
.688 OBP
.727 SLG
7 runs
5 SB
0 CS
0 E
5 BB
0 K

BENCH HIM! Of course.

zzzzzzzzzzz
is it a coincidence that freel is on the bench and his teammates seem to be sleeping through this game?

is no one as pissed as me?

by greg456 on Apr 9, 2006 2:20 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Don't worry
I was pissed as soon as they traded for Womack, because I knew that this would happen. Womack was going to improve somewhat from last year, just because he was so terrible and is now playing in GABP, but the huge error here is taking time away from Freel. I guess you could describe my feelings now as a quiet, simmering rage.

I was thinking the same thing...
Greg, I thought I was the only one thinking that the guys just look lethagric today.  This is performance is absolutely pathetic.  And that's not Pedro Martinez up there on the mound.  They must have mentally moved on to the Chicago series.

And the hits keep on coming!
And by hits I mean errors, of course!

I mean, it's always great

Griffey
Junior was given a gift by Glenn Sample on Burnitz's "double."  He was under the ball and should have had it caught.  Doesn't look like anyone's head is in this game.

Belisle
Another bad outing by Matt Belisle.  I know there are a lot of Belisle fans who frequent this site.  Can one of you tell me what it is that you see in him?  He's got two pitches.  One he throws for strikes, which happens to be the one that is very hittable.

Also, another meltdown by Chris Reitsma today, for those of you who have always supported him:
