Game Thread: Game 2 vs. the Cubs

TIME: 12:35 @ Great American Ball Park

REDS PROBABLE:
                   CUBS PROBABLE:
Bronson Arroyo (0-0, 0.00)       Glendon Rusch (0-0, 0.00)

Is Glendon Rush really the Cubs number 2 right now? Don't get me wrong, he's been a good pitcher lately, but I find that a little surprising. Pitching injuries and the Cubbies go together like Mom and apple pie.

The game's on ESPN if you have access to a TV. Go Reds!

ESPN?
It is an ESPN game, but last night they said some audiences will get ESPN News instead.  The game is not on a local channel in Chicago, so it can't be the Chicago market getting the blackout.  Is it Cincinnati?

Chicago
Well, it now appears the game is on Cox Sports Net in Chicago.

Rusch
Rusch is not there number as of now they are just saving Maddux for the opener Friday in Wrigley.I hope Aurilla gets the start at 3rd today EDE looked really bad monday.

Dude
You cannot give up on a young hitter just because he has one bad game. Edwin's OPS was a good deal higher against lefties last year, so I'm sure he'll start. I'm guessing Aurilia will be at 1B in place of Hatteberg, with Freel in for Womack at 2B.

...

Hey, that's almost an optimal lineup!

And we're all heartbroken, aren't we?

by Senor Pez on Apr 5, 2006 12:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes, but Dunn is batting 5th again.
And Aurilia is hitting cleanup.  Wonder if Denorfia can play first...

AARRRHGHH!
I hate these Bob Boone lineups.  Just because Glendon Rusch throws with his left hand doesn't make Rich Aurilia a cleanup hitter!

by Brian B on Apr 5, 2006 12:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Correction...
That would be a "Dave Miley" lineup.  Miley is the guy who batted him fifth or lower.

Bob Boone would have Dunn batting leadoff.

Miley and Boone
Actually Boone would have Griffey and Dunn on the bench because, you know, lefties shouldn't be anywhere near the plate when there's a lefty on the mound.

GABP for Petco. Remember how we dominated that series in SD last summer? Even Gopherball Milton kept the ball in the park there, and our hitters are so good we still managed to score a bunch of runs.

That's something I never thought about...it's definitely advantageous to steal with the shift on because the 3B isn't used to taking throws at 2nd. Still, he's lucky that the throw was bad, because they totally saw that coming.

There.  Now wasn't that as good as a timely single?  Oh, wait . . .

by Brian B on Apr 5, 2006 1:28 PM EDT reply actions

timely single
It's the same result as a timely single when the left fielder throws the ball away and then the catcher and pitcher collide and the second baseman trips on his shoelace and the third base has a spontaneous sit-in to protest the war and the shortstop gets in a fight with the first baseman for some personal issues they've been having, allowing Aurilia to come all the way around to score.

For those of you were aren't watching on TV or listening to Marty and Steve, Dunn hauled in a routine fly ball and raised his hand in the air to acknowledge the cheering crowd.  Everybody, Dunn, Griffey, the dugout, was cracking up.
