Around SBN: Chan Sung Jung Wins Thriller Over Dustin Poirier

Game Thread: Game 7 vs. the Cubs

TIME: 2:20 @ Wrigley Field

REDS PROBABLE:
                     CUBS PROBABLE:
Bronson Arroyo (1-0, 4.05)        Glendon Rusch (0-1, 9.00)

Glendon Rusch once again, the Reds didn't do too badly the last time they faced him. You never really know what you're going to get with Wrigley, but I'm kind of hoping the winds blowing out.

Go Reds!

Best Homerun Stride... Ever
I said it before he was a Red, and I continue to say it today.

Griffey... Shows Bunt?
Did I miss something? Did he get faster?

Oh, never mind, he just crushed one out of the park.

(And HOORAY! Freel is playing!)

Rusch's ERA
He is trying awfully hard to keep the ERA right at a round 9.  Good for him, we all have to have goals.

about Arroyo.  wow.  can he play any 1st base?  or catch a flyball?

there goes the perfect season for Arroyo
I doubt that many hitters have ever been at the perfect 5.000 OPS through 3 AB's.

BCB comment
I thought the second comment over at Bleed Cubbie Blue was pretty funny:

"I'm already getting hazed here in Cincy about the pitching matchup and they're projecting another homerun from Arroyo, which is utterly ridiculous.

I did call it last week that I particularly love when the Cubs get beat by the Reds and then go on to sweep the Cardinals - just a joke, but it turned out to be true.  I'd love to see this newfound love for fundamentals being shown today and the Cubs taking the games that we should win.  The Reds are bunk.  There's no reason we shouldn't take this series."

Nightmare for the Cubbies
You think if they pile it on we might get some bean balls tomorrow?

Wow, I go away to a meeting for an hour and the Reds blow up.  It's a shame that this team can only score with home runs.

Love the starting pitching this team is getting in the first week of the season!

Give Freel a shot in the bullpen
that may be another way to get him into the game, and he can't be any worse than the other guys out in the pen!

It's ok
Hammond's ERA is 189.00. That means he'll only give up 7 runs for each out he gets. So we should still be ahead 9-7 with 5 outs to go.

Hammond
Dude, he totally just cut his ERA in half with that force out on Pierre.  He's turning his season around!

Pierre
Is one of the worst hitters I have ever seen in person. I saw him on Sunday night, and every single ball he hit dove straight into the ground and slowly rolled toward second. Maybe he's just in a slump or something, but did he ever look bad. Hoping for more of the same from him the rest of the series.

last chance...
hammond should be gone after today.  no pressure going in there with a nine run lead and he still can't get the job done.

i think that narron put hammond in there as a test, and he took him out just now because he failed.

so long chris, i'll still remember you for 1990.

I felt the same way about Weathers last year and he ended up recoving to being average. Can't argue with giving one the guys in AAA a shot at this point, though.

Do not be so hard on him his ERA is only like 69.Rick White is a little bit better with ERA of 7.Lets call him Cy Young.

Hammond
Gnarley, you give him too much credit, his ERA is 72.00.  That is no where near 69.00. :)

And is it too much to ask Hammond and White to cruise quickly through an inning with a 8-run lead???
