Game thread Aug 26 @ Pittsburgh
The longest Reds road trip in 16 years rolls on! The good guys are 2-1 so far.
Mark Redman vs. The Harangutan
Redman has a 5-13 record despite a not-horrible 4.78 ERA.
Harang has 3 quality starts in a row.
Not a bad looking lineup. Pena gets a start over Kearns. Casey batting 5th. Strugglin' Dunn is 6th.
...And the Reds strand 2 in scoring position in the first.

Nah.
He's one of the few reasons to watch the Reds anyway. I hope he gets to 40 HR.

What idiot wanted to trade him?

Replace him?
i think we can do that.
besides, you get rid of griffey and then put a winning team on the field and everyone will forget we ever traded him.
fans come to see a winning team, no matter who is playing on it.

can't replace him
Besides, the only way "everyone will forget we ever traded him" would be if Griffey gets hurt again after leaving the Reds. I'm not going to hope for that.

Injuries
I don't think anyone would. But it's silly not to admit that there's a huge possibility of Griffey getting hurt again in the next few years. It's a big risk to take with how much money he's making.
I'm not saying I want him to go either, I don't really know how I feel about it. I actually think I'm fine whether he stays a Red or gets traded. I see the good in both.

"I don't think anyone would"
Trading him doesn't guarantee that the money is going to be spent well on a #1 starter. What if you end up with Kris Benson or Oliver Perez, and they sit out with arm troubles? Or Kerry Wood? I'll take my chances with what Griffey offers, knowing that when he's healthy he does what he's paid to do.
"It's a big risk to take with how much money he's making."
Griffey earns what he's paid, and the Reds should be lucky to have the opportunity to have him on their payroll. Most good teams have at least two players making more than $10 million. The Reds don't have anyone else making more than $8.5 million.
