Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

Game Thread: Game 72

TIME: 7:05 @ Jacobs Field

REDS PROBABLE:
           INDIANS PROBABLE:
Eric Milton (3-9, 7.82)       Scott Elarton (4-2, 4.79)

EdE is starting tonight and hitting ninth:

Jerry Narron isn't wasting any time getting Edwin Encarnacion in the lineup. The kid's playing third base -- and batting ninth -- tonight. Joe Randa is the DH.

Dan O'Brien said, more or less, that this is a three-game shot for Edwin with the DH available over the weekend. They still want him to play every day, which he won't be able to do here until the all but inevitable Randa deal is made.

Get that kid some AB's, then send him back where he will continue to get regular ABs.

Having him up and sitting on the bench at all will make me about as angry as I could possibly get.

Unreal
Don Rumsfeld would be more effective out there.

At least they got it back
That was quick.  Almost Miltonesque.

Don't speak so fast
The Reds will really have to score quickly to keep up with Milty.

Oh, I wasn't about to say
That the Reds have any chance of winning a Milton start without at least nine or ten runs.

I was merely noting how well Elarton was doing his Milton impersonation.

I wonder...
What the record is for highest ERA for pitchers who have qualified for the ERA title?

You would think that it wouldn't be very high, since most pitchers who have high ERA's eventually wind up pitching fewer innings and therefore not qualifying.

Milton seems to be in a situation where he will pitch every fifth day until O'Brien gets fired, and he will probably accumulate enough innings pitched to qualify, while still pitching incredibly badly.

Good for Milton
Props for bearing down.  He got a couple indians chasing high fastballs, but it really looked like he had the heat going for him after making a few mistakes early.

280, 14, and 50 RBI.  And some clutch hits of late.  Glad to see it.  He's a decent guy.

Weathers
has come aoround. just two earned runs in last ten appearances since may 30th.  here's hoping for the save.  if the Reds could win on the roda they wouldn't be a bad squad.

Weathers
Every time he comes out his stats get better and better.  And it makes me think of how pissed he was at himself after he started that ninth inning comeback for the Cardinals.  We were down on him then, but there was certainly a difference between his and Graves' reactions.

Good for Weathers.

Great game
That was enjoyable.  Big game for Griffey was enough to carry Milton, who incidentally kept the team in the game.  Good defense all around, especially for Lopez and his cannon arm (although Belliard was safe in the ninth).  Good relief pitching.  Narron didn't screw anything up, even with the lineup which was handicapped by the roster itself.  Wedge let Howry talk him into letting him pitch to Felipe Lopez instead of facing . . . Rich Aurilia?  OOOPS!
