Kearns Wants to be Traded (from DDN)
From Hal McCoy and the Dayton Daily News:
Austin Kearns, languishing these days at Class AAA Louisville, has asked about a trade and wouldn't mind if the Cincinnati Reds moved him to another organization where he would play every day, he told the Dayton Daily News.
"There comes a time when you want to get established with a team and play every day," he said. "Every time I'm with the Reds, they try to play four or five outfielders. You can't work your way out of any slump because they put you on the bench."
When he was sent down before the June 13-15 Boston series, Kearns asked about a trade and was told by general manager Dan O'Brien that there was no interest in him.
"I called him on that because I've heard there is," said Kearns. "When Washington was in town, (Nationals general manager) Jim Bowden told both Adam Dunn and me he continues to try to make trades for us."
Bowden, though, has said that his phone calls to the Reds are not returned and his e-mails to the Reds are not answered.
The Chicago Cubs have interest in Kearns and when the Atlanta Braves were in town manager Bobby Cox pointedly asked, "What's going on with Kearns and why is in Louisville? I sure like that kid."
Kearns is hitting .346 with five doubles in 26 at-bats in Louisville.

Ah the dream world that some of us live in.
There is no way there is no interest in a guy that at 22 hit 13 hrs and had a 327 average. I think that fact that DOB told him that was just stupid.

I didn't even catch that the first time I read the article. That's pretty interesting, if true.

CLEVELAND -- Contrary to published reports, Austin Kearns did not demand (or request) a trade out of Cincinnati, according to Reds GM Dan O'Brien.
"His comment was, `I'd like to play the rest of my career in Cincinnati, Ohio, if that's possible,'" O'Brien said Friday afternoon.
Besides, said O'Brien, the Reds have no desire to deal the 25-year-old outfielder.
"We're not interested in trading Austin Kearns," said O'Brien. "He's in Louisville with a very specific program, and the goal is to get him back to being the player that we know he's capable of being, wearing a Cincinnati Reds uniform."
The GM again declined to provide any sort of timetable for Kearns' return to the majors. Kearns is hitting .379 with a home run and six RBIs in seven games since being optioned to Louisville.

Hmmm. Do we believe Dan O'Brien? I know we have a right to believe he's not tellng us the whoel truth, but this is an actual disclosure that shouldn't be knowingly false. I hope he's right. The only thing that would hurt more than Kearns asking for a trade is actually trading him - even if logic says it has to happen.
Is there a way, when Milton and Ortiz are pitching, that we can play four outfielders and three infielders?
