Around SBN: Clippers Need To Realize That Spurs Are The Anti-Grizzlies

Game Thread: Game Five

I'm going to be at a tennis tournament all day tomorrow, so I'm getting this up here early.

Is it too early to waive Rich Aurilia?

You always see those "Free so and so" campaigns on baseball blogs (the most famous of which was probably Aaron Gleeman's "Free Johan Santana" campaign).  I'm starting a "Bench Rich Aurilia" campaign.  I can't sit idly by and let him hurt my beloved Reds any longer.  I feel called to action.

The campaign kicks off today, and you can follow the progress on the left side of the screen (scroll down a bit).  Let's hope this ends well, and I appreciate your support.

Aurilia
Come on.  As if Barry Larkin or Felipe Lopez would have gotten close to fielding that ball.  Felipe even had a diving chance on Thursday and the ball went underneath his glove.  Rich just didn't take his time in getting up.

Griffey and Kearns were 0 for 8 with 7 Ks.  I'm going to say that hurt us more than Aurilia's bobble.

Richie vs Javy
I'm willing to give ol Richie more time, but I do think Filipe should be playing far more than him.  I would much rather see a Release Javy Valetin campaign.  I wish they would have kept Estalella instead.  Its not even funny how bad Valetin is.

On a side note, Randa is currently the #1 player in Yahoo's fantasy baseball league!

Aurilia vs. Lopez
This is merely my opinion, but if Aurilia is getting his glove on the ball (and it was stung that hard), then most likely Lopez would have fielded it. Now you can make the argument that he would have made a bad throw, but I still think he gets to that ball.

One thing I've noticed about FeLo is that he tends to make errant throws on routine plays where he has plenty of time to think about his throw. The bang-bang plays he usually seems to make.

oops
I meant to say it "wasn't" stung that hard.

That was weak
It looks like we're gonna need some protection in the lineup for Randa :)
