1972 reds

in honor of busch stadium's last game, i've got some blurry black/white pictures up at Viva El Birdos, taken on camera day in 1972 --- vs the reds, who by coincidence are today's visiting team as well. shots up of rose, tolan, morgan, perez, along w some notes about that '72 team and where it fit within the reds' 1970s dynasty. for any of you sentimental nostalgists.

Perez
It's obviously not Tony Perez in that last picture.  Who wore #17 in '72?

My Dad
He's a total fair weather Reds fan.  Well, maybe that's not doing it justice . . . he was 20 in 1970, and a big Reds fan like a lot of people.  But it's not his fault his 20s overlapped the 70s, so I'll have to give him that.

I asked dad about the photo.  Here's what he had to say:

"It's NOT Tony Perez.  My first thought is Chico Cardenas.  He played a lot
of shortstop before Concepcion and they kept him as a utility infielder.  My
second choice would be Elio Chicon. Damnit, here I have getting ready for
some Who Dey action and now I'll be  thinking about this all day!"

And them he wrote back:

"It just came to me.....It's Julian Javier."
